Surgeon Successfully Uses Hyper Vision Limited’s Hyprvue Headset to Complete Two Knee Arthroplasties

Shenzhen / August 8, 2020 / — A surgeon in Asia recently completed the first augmented reality knee replacement surgery. Three weeks ago, the surgeon used Hyper Vision Limited’s revolutionary Hyprvue to replace the knees of two patients who had significant arthritis in their knee joints.

The technology allowed him to evaluate vital surgical data while completing the surgery. Both patients, who are in their 40s, were examined this week and confirmed that they were in good health.

Computer tomography (CT) knee scans of the patients were acquired in the weeks preceding up to the operations and uploaded into a cloud-based platform, which generated 3-D models of the knees. The 3-D models are utilized for preoperative planning, such as estimating how much defective bone and cartilage to remove and the appropriate implant location based on each patient’s anatomy.

The technology allowed the surgeon to see and follow operating plans projected onto the Headset’s lens during knee surgery, enabling more exact bone and cartilage removal and more accurate placing of a knee implant. “At numerous stages during the procedure, the Headset provided me with information, ensuring that my cuts are exact to the degree and accurate to the millimeter,” stated the surgeon.
